Yoast: WordPress SEO update and a new employee

Changes in WordPress SEO and meet one of our newest colleagues: Andy!

Changes in WordPress SEO

This week we did another pretty big update to WordPress SEO, containing two major changes.

The first of these changes is the direct result of Google's recent announcement of quitting the rel=author project which we blogged about before. It's a rather simple change: we removed all the functionality to do with rel=author from the plugin.

The second of the changes is the addition of a new piece of markup, on the frontpage of every site. It is a piece of metadata which gives Google all the needed info to show a search engine in your sites sitelinks. More info on that can be found here. The short of it: you don't need to do anything, it's taken care of.

So: update to WordPress SEO 1.6 or 1.4 if you're running our Premium SEO plugin!

Announcing... Andy!

You might've already encountered him in our support, because he's actually been working at Yoast for over a month now. Meet Andy!

Andy is an ambitious web developer with a degree in Communications and Multimedia design. Web development is his passion, personal development and mastering new things are his main motives at Yoast. His favorite weapons of choice are PHP, AJAX and JavaScript.

Even in his spare time, Andy likes to explore new web techniques. Less work related, Andy likes to read about both World Wars, finding new music artists and watching movies.

Links from around the web

In this section of our newsletter we'll highlight a few links we especially enjoyed or found interesting during the past week.

First of all, WordPress gave a sneakpeak of their new theme due December this year: Twenty Fifteen

Secondly, merely hours after we published Marieke's post about how to write a blog post with decent SEO, we saw that our friend Neil Patel had published his own post about how to write blogposts that generate leads. We think this'll combine nicely with Marieke's post! ;)

That's it! "See you" later!
